Caitlin Phillips, CPA
From an early age, I was always better with numbers than I was with words and even though I’ve grown to love words as well, numbers are still my passion – so apologies in advance as I’m certainly not a creative writer.
I was born and raised in Charlottesville where I attended St. Anne’s Belfield from Pre-K through 12th grade; I played volleyball and softball and loathed my English classes (see note above). I graduated in 2007 and continued my education at Sweet Briar College just up the road – you might have seen us in the paper a few years back – and yes, the college still exists. Go Sweet! I intended to major in Mathematics and get my master’s in education but that plan changed at the end of my sophomore year when I enrolled in an accounting class to fill up some of my schedule – I fell in love. I switched my major to Business Administration and graduated in the fall of 2010.
I began my work in the accounting sector as an intern at a local tax and accounting firm shortly after college. Starting as the tax season intern, I quickly worked my way to becoming a staff accountant. After nearly a half-decade of working for someone else, I decided to venture out on my own and begin my new adventure where I could focus on the close relationships I yearn to have with my clients; helping them achieve their goals while I achieve mine.
My preferred software is QuickBooks; I am highly proficient in both online and desktop versions. I have recently been certified in QuickBooks Online and Desktop 2017 though I am constantly expanding my knowledge and becoming proficient with other software platforms. When I’m not working with numbers, I’m normally found working out at ACAC or at the park with my dog, Frank! We love to go grab lunch on the downtown mall, play fetch and go for walks and hikes around the area. My other passions include cooking, softball, golf and travel – specifically sailing or beach bumming. My goals for the next three years are to build on my knowledge of bookkeeping, payroll and tax consulting. I recently passed my CPA as well!
